In India’s Nagaland state, vocational education is supervised by the Director of Employment & Craftsmen Training of the Government of Mizoram. As a result of development taking place rapidly, there is a rise in demand for skilled manpower resources in the country. Thus, the Government authorities are investing in skill-based training that is conducted via the government-managed Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-owned Industrial Training Centers (ITCs).
The National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) jointly with the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) is responsible for imparting vocational training. The NCVT works at the national level and frames the policies pertaining to vocational education; and the SCVT operates at the state level as per the NCVT’s guidelines.
With a choice of over 150 trades, the aspiring candidates have an array of vocational courses to choose from. The trades are categorized into NCVT and SCVT ones. Upon course completion, for the NCVT trades, the National Level Trade Certificates (NLTCs) are awarded; and for the SCVT trades, the State Level Trade Certificates (SLTCs).
Through the NLTCs, the candidates become eligible for applying to the national level jobs; and the SLTCs, to the state level opportunities.
