The Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training (DECT) of Assam that comes under the Ministry of Labour & Employment of the Government of Assam is the managing body of vocational education in India’s Assam state. The National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) works at the national level and lays down the guidelines governing the government-managed Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-run Industrial Training Centers (ITCs). Then, the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) implements the NCVT’s policies in the respective Indian states.

By enrolling in the ITIs and ITCs, the aspiring candidates can develop their skills in an array of engineering and non-engineering trades. In fact, they can choose between a variety of trade courses to specialize in. However, they must keep in mind to apply only as per the eligibility norms; the criteria vary as per the course.

There are several courses that are categorized under the NCVT and SCVT category and the aspirants can apply for the programs depending on their interests. However, upon successful completion of the skill-based training programs, the students are awarded either the National Level Trade Certificate or State Level Trade Certificate, depending on whether they completed the NCVT or SCVT trade courses. Thereafter, they are eligible to avail the various employment opportunities at the national level or state level, accordingly.
